Staff Counselors


Mark Burkholder, M.A., has been with Day Seven since 2003. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Taylor University and his master’s degree from Columbia International University. Mark’s special counseling interest is in providing spiritual direction. Mark and his wife, Eva, and their two sons live in Ephrata. Mark grew up in Lancaster County before leaving the area for college and seminary, and his family served in Indonesia as part of a church-planting team until 2003. Mark, also a licensed pastor, currently prepares the music and worship for Washington Avenue Bible Church, where his family attends. Mark is a graduate of the Marriage and Family Counseling program at Lancaster Bible College and is working toward fulfilling counseling requirements for state licensure.

Michael Courtney, B.S., has been a counselor at Day Seven Ministries since August 2005. He has also served as a support group leader for Day Seven. He has a background in small group ministry and leader development. He is currently enrolled in the master's degree program at Millersville University, studying psychology. He has had a long-term interest in political science, economics, philosophy, psychology, and geography--all the social sciences--and loves the Rocky Mountains. He and his wife, Donna Lynne, and their two sons, Evan and Andrew, live outside of Elizabethtown and attend Cross Roads Brethren in Christ Church in Mount Joy.

Darren Crowden joined Day Seven in September 2004, after graduating from Lancaster Bible College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Life Ministry and a minor in counseling. Darren is currently working on a master’s degree in mental health counseling with Regions University, Montgomery, AL. With Day Seven, Darren counsels with men who struggle with sexual brokenness in a number of areas. He spent 23 years in the Air Force, and is employed as a program manager at the Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg. He serves in a leadership position with the Camp Hill Church of Christ, Camp Hill, where he and his wife, Jennifer, attend. The Crowdens have a married daughter and twin grandsons.

Alesia Dunlap has been a women's counselor and group mentor at Day Seven since 2005. She has focused on spouses of sexual addicts and women with sexual abuse histories. Alesia holds a bachelor's degree from Georgia Institute of Technology and expects to receive a Master of Arts in Counseling degree from Lancaster Bible College and Graduate School in May 2007. She is a member of the American Association of Christian Counseling. Alesia and her husband, Danny, live in Lititz, have three adult children, and attend Lancaster County Bible Church.

Roanne Funk, M.S., has been a counselor with Day Seven since June 2006. Prior to receiving her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Millersville University, Roanne was a registered nurse, specializing in psychiatric nursing. Her special counseling interests are working with women in the areas of grief and loss, spirituality, and parenting. Roanne serves on the Board of Faith Friendship Village and is an active volunteer with Joni & Friends. Ro is also secretary of Phi Kappa Phi, Millersville University Chapter. Ro and her husband, Brian, who live in Millersville, have two grown children and attend Manor Church.

Joe Hawk, M.S., has worked part-time for Day Seven since January 2006. He received a bachelor’s degree in religion from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University and is ordained in the Church of the Nazarene. He has a M.Ed. from Nazarene Theological and a master’s degree in school psychology with a concentration in clinical counseling psychology from Eastern University. He has worked with adolescents and families in a variety of capacities, including as a chaplain at a private Christian school, as a youth and leadership pastor, and as a residential counselor. He is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and the American Counseling Association. Joe and his wife, Mary Lynn, who have two grown daughters, reside in Hummelstown and are active in ministry at Bethany Church of the Nazarene in Harrisburg.

Craig Hickey, a chaplain with Water Street Rescue Misison, works part-time for Day Seven as an intake counselor. He is also the author of a memoir, "A Walk With God to Remember," about his first wife who died of leukemia. A graduate of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, he was worked in campus ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and in church ministry with an Evangelical Free congregation. He is married to Diane and has two daughters adopted from China.

Gary L. Lord, Ph.D., licensed clinical psychologist and certified school psychologist, works part-time with Day Seven, and full time as a school psychologist for Reading School District. He is an active member of Lancaster Evangelical Free Church. His focus in counseling is, and has been for 25 years, relationships and problems with intimacy and anything that prevents individuals and couples from achieving healthy, effective, faithful, and fulfilling lives. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Lord has done executive coaching, and consulting with businesses and organizations, and he has taught and done research at universities and colleges, and has taught and served in various leadership positions in the church. Gary and his wife live in Leola. Their two married children live in Seattle, Gary's home state.

Scott Martin, B.S., is among the latest additions to the counseling staff at Day Seven. Beginning in June of 2006, Scott has worked primarily with sexual addiction in individual and group counseling settings. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in Bible and Professional Counseling degree from nearby Lancaster Bible College, and he is currently seeking to obtain a Master of Arts in Counseling degree from Biblical Seminary. Some of Scott’s counseling interests include family dynamics, sexual addiction, and distorted images of God. Scott’s greatest joy in counseling is seeing hearts, lives, and relationships transformed by Jesus Christ. Scott and his wife, Erin, live in Lancaster, where they also attend Calvary Church.

Andy Mercurio, D.Min., is an ordained minister with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. He is currently the Associate Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling at Evangelical School of Theology in Myerstown. Andy is also the Program Director for the M.A. degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Evangelical. He received his M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary and Doctor of Ministry degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary. At Day Seven, Andy’s clinical focus is on sex therapy for couples who are experiencing sexual differences, difficulties, or disorders. Andy and his wife, Gillian, and their three children live in Lititz and attend Lititz United Methodist Church.

Bill Snyder is a therapist working part-time at Day Seven since 2003. He works with individuals dealing with sexual addiction, depression, and anxiety-related problems including obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. His particular area of interest involves teaching stress management and helping trauma survivors rediscover and strengthen their sense of self. Bill utilizes an eclectic treatment approach that acknowledges the whole individual and includes cognitive, cognitive-behavioral, gestalt, and emotion-focused therapies while also addressing spiritual needs. Bill received his Bachelor of Science degree in Bible and Professional Counseling in 2003 from Lancaster Bible College and his Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology in 2007 from Millersville University. He attends Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, Pa. Bill and his wife, Carry, live in the Lancaster area with their two daughters.
