Mentoring

“Basically, mentoring is a purposeful conversation that offers a safe place to tell one’s story, achieve greater clarity, solve a problem, and get feedback from an experienced, wiser colleague, friend, or family member.”
        Dr. Robert Wicks*

At Day Seven, mentoring is used as a complement to the counseling process. In a mentoring relationship, an individual is matched up with someone who has experienced similar struggles, but is farther along in their journey. The main purpose of mentoring is to provide support, encouragement, and accountability for a person who is experiencing a difficult time in his or her life.

Mentoring involves:
  • Intentional relationships that are goal-oriented.
  • Customized meeting locations and times.
  • A focus on three specific areas:
    1. Accountability/behavioral issues
    2. Relationship and communication skills
    3. Spiritual grounding and growth

Mentor matches are available for both men and women. Mentors are screened for qualities such as stability, maturity, and a vital relationship with the Lord.
